BROKER DESCRIPTION

Billy Budd II (built as Saudade of Hamilton, Royal Huismann Hull # 360)

From the legendary Royal Huisman yard with naval architecture designed by Judel Vrolijk, the 34.3m Billy Budd was built for a client who holds high performance as his first criterion. She is designed to be a fast and comfortable cruising yacht with a fully battened main, with many of the winches from Rondal.

On Billy Budd the deck is not just functional: it is an aesthetic space as well, created by Pieter Beeldsnijder of PB design, in keeping with his philosophy that elements on deck and below ought to be in total harmony. In de the accommodation areas Beeldsnijder has created a joinery style he calls “Art Deco Maritime,” but which would still be “elegant” by any other name. It is fashioned in satin varnished mahogany, with contrasting wenge inlays and white-leather overheads. There is indirect lighting along the furniture baseboards, and portlights have sliding shoji screens that give warm natural light by day and soft backlighting by night. The overall effect is that of substance and intimacy.

The yachts has been extensivelyrefitted in 2011 and 2015, featuring now new teak deck, new rig, new engine, new generatorsand complete new hydraulics.

CONSTRUCTION

Judel-Vrolijk was the naval architect firm involved in the professional vessel plans for Billy Budd II. Her interior design was realised by Pieter Beeldsnijder Design. Judel-Vrolijk is also associated with the yacht wider design collaboration for this yacht. Created by Royal Huisman this vessel was fabricated in the known yacht building country the Netherlands. She was successfully launched in Vollenhove in 1994 before being delivered to the original owner. The hull was constructed with aluminium. The sailing yacht main superstructure is made for the most part from aluminium.

ACCOMMODATION AND OTHER EQUIPMENT

Billy Budd 2 can accommodate 6 guests in three staterooms and 5 crew in 2 cabins forward. The interior has a split saloon arrangement with the upper saloon area in the deckhouse accessed off the cockpit. In this space there is a dinette with seating to port and navigation station and desk to starboard. You can be out of the weather and still enjoy panoramic views. The stairs forward take you to the lower saloon area which has a large dinette to port and an entertainment lounge area to starboard. Forward from the saloon is the galley and access to crew quarters. A passageway leading aft from the saloon accesses twin guest cabins port and starboard each with ensuites. Aft of the guest cabins is the full beam master with ensuite and tub. She has been maintained and managed by a professional crew of 5.

Spars are carbon fiber and a new Nordic "park avenue" boom was added in the 2010 refit. There are dual headstays, as well as a staysail stay, all with hydraulic furlers. Having multiple headsails on furlers allows for tremendous flexibility and with the hydraulic winch package you can have any sail combination with the press of a button; all from the safety of the cockpit aft which features a dual helm setup.
