44' Little Harbor 1983 BLITZEN

BROKER DESCRIPTION

BLITZEN is a fine example of the Ted Hood-designed Little Harbor 44. Heavily built to very high standards, she is easy to sail shorthanded, with an electric Stoway rig and bow thruster. BLITZEN has a spacious two-stateroom, two-head layout and a large comfortable salon with easy access to the cockpit. She has been meticulously maintained and shows extremely well with her Herreshoff style interior. She benefited from a major refit in the early 2000s at Little Harbor/Hinckley, where most everything was upgraded or replaced, including a new Volvo engine and side power bow thruster. Unlike her sisterships, she does not have teak decks. Her non-skid deck and stainless hardware make her look nearly new. Centerboard configuration measures 5' with board up / 10'-2" with board down. She is not only beautiful, but also one of the most comfortable, competent and easily-handled real sailboats of her size. A highly recommended boat.

DETAILS

Sleeps 7 in 3 cabins.

The forward cabin has a large V-berth which converts to a double with a filler piece. There are ample lockers above and storage underneath. Next aft to port in this cabin is a sitting area with double hanging lockers outboard. Opposite is a spacious head with sink, shower and cabinetry for toilet articles.

The main saloon contains a full U-shaped settee to starboard which converts to sleep two, with a dining table and a centerline settee adjacent to this table. Opposite to port is an expandable transom berth and shelves and lockers over. The forward part of this area is devoted to instrumentation and the navigator’s table. The galley is aft to starboard.

Galley equipment includes:

  • Stainless steel sinks
  • Hot and cold pressure water
  • Hand salt water pump
  • Force 10 3-burner stove with oven and broiler
  • Microwave

  • 110 volt and engine-driven refrigeration with hold over plates

The owner’s double cabin is adjacent to the companionway to port, and contains a good-sized hanging locker, drawer space and a private head accessible from the owner’s cabin or the main saloon. The sleeping accommodations in this cabin are unique for boats of this size. The berth is as large as a standard Queen, and is easy to lie down on, unlike many that need to be entered head first.

The interior joiner work is in Herreshoff style, with a combination of varnished teak with white bulkheads tastefully blended together to provide a rich, bright interior. Custom cabinetry and shelving for very specific purposes can be found throughout the boat.
