Charbonneau is a very special example of the legendary Island Packet 40. In addition to Island Packet's clever use of most all available space for storage, Charbonneau benefits from beautiful custom cabinetry for even more convenience and comfort. With a large galley, two large berths, two heads with showers, a comfortable salon with a pull-out berth, hanging lockers, abundant storage and plenty of creature comforts, she is a true home afloat.
Charbonneau's Master Suite is forward with a Private Head in the bow ensuite with the master stateroom. The head features an electric toilet with fresh water flush, shower with teak seat, vanity, custom cabinetry for toiletries, auxiliary salt water pump, and access to the anchor locker forward. The adjacent master stateroom is large and comfortable with a Pullman berth to starboard and a hanging locker plus bureau drawers to port. The berth has an HMC custom mattress, hinged in the middle. There are also bins and drawers underneath the berth.
The Main Salon is next aft and is impressive to say the least. With plenty of natural light and ventilation, beautiful UltraLeather settees, and Island Packet's signature fold-up dining table, this will be one of your favorite places to relax in comfort and style. When folded down and opened, the dining table easily accommodates six guests. There is a huge amount of hidden storage space beneath and behind both the port and starboard settees. The port settee is straight and makes an excellent sea berth. Lee cloths are included. Just forward of this settee is a large hanging locker. The L-shaped starboard settee pulls out to make a double berth. This settee also serves as the seat for the aft-facing Navigation Station with its large desk and instrument panel. A 24-inch 12-volt TV mounted on an articulating arm provides entertainment.
Next aft to starboard is the nice U-shaped Galley with double stainless steel sinks, 3-burner LPG stove with large oven, refrigerator/freezer, storage for plates, cutlery, and supplies, plus additional custom cabinetry, plenty of counter space, and a slide-out trash can.
Across from the galley is the Aft Head with electric toilet with fresh water flush, shower with teak seat, vanity, and storage. Custom cabinetry houses the water maker. This head is easily accessed from the companionway as well as from the...
Aft Stateroom with its ensuite door for privacy. This stateroom has another nice hanging locker, drawers, and bins. It features custom cabinetry for tool storage plus custom access to storage space behind the port cockpit seat.
The Engine Compartment is under the Companionway and is easily accessed from all four sides. There is a custom teak cabinet behind the companionway steps.
The Cockpit is large and functional with straight bench-type seats which can double as outside berths. There is a cockpit shower and custom storage beneath the helm seat. A top quality full enclosure by Mariner Canvas was custom designed for the cockpit. A KATO swim platform was added for easy access to the dinghy and swimming. For additional cockpit safety, two rows of heavy-duty stainless steel railing were added extending from the arch to the boarding gate.
From Owner: "While in the Caribbean for the past four years, Charbonneau's exterior teak has been over-coated with EpiFanes original Gloss Varnish in the Spring and Fall with two coats each time. She now sports a deep luster from approximately 18 coats of varnish. Color coordinated Outland custom hatch covers provide privacy and shade to the cabin, while Peek-a-Boo sliding blinds do the same for Charbonneau's many portlights."
The L-shaped galley is large and functional with plenty of storage and counter space. The original cold plate refrigeration was replaced with the largest air-cooled Frigoboat system. The cavernous icebox sides were re-lined with 2-inch DOW blue foam board while the bottom received 6-inches of foam board. The space was divided into a large spill-over refrigerator/freezer which produces ice and holds many months of frozen food and fresh goods.
(From Owner: "Previous and current owners have religiously carbon-filtered all dock-side water supplies to remove any chlorine and protect the aluminum tank. Drinking and cooking water is filtered through a Seagull filter in the galley.")
Hot/cold pressure water
(From Owner: "All electronics have been upgraded to NEMA 2000 level equipment. There are two backbones to power the equipment. A Garmin 5212 Chartplotter (with all Garmin Caribbean charts) is the primary navigational tool which is aided by a Type 2 Raymarine Hydraulic Autopilot. Three B&G monitors supply additional wind and water data to keep the helm informed. Purchased fall 2011, the Garmin VHF 300 series with AIS-receive capability is the daily communications tool. An ICOM 802 SSB with P4 Pactor modem provides bluewater communications. Chris Parker's weather forecasts are part of the Charbonneau daily routine.")
Ritchie PowerDamp Compass w night light
Insignia 24" TV/DVD, 12-volt, mounted on articulating arm
Custom full cockpit enclosure by Mariner Canvas, an award winning designer/builder of boat enclosures. (From owner: "This enclosure has withstood 'top over' waves and still rolls up, rolls down, opens, and closes with total reliability. It provides secure comfort in poor weather, and an attractive shaded entertainment/relaxing space in good weather.")
From Owner: "Charbonneau provides shore access with a 2014 AB 10AL Dinghy. AB Chaps protect the Hypalon tubes from normal davit and dockside wear. A 15hp 4-stroke Yamaha outboard engine (March 2010) with electric start provides the power to explore and shop. The outboard is Yamaha-dealer serviced every year and has never failed us."
In 2014, the original aluminum holding tank was replaced with a 25-gallon 3/8" Polypro holding tank. An external electronic tank monitor was also installed.
