Her Volvo D2-55-D 55 hp 4-cylinder naturally aspirated diesel engine has been meticulously maintained, has just 2,168 hours, and fires up immediately with just one push of the starter. Her electrical system is fully redundant, with extensive monitoring capabilities, and includes 640 watts of solar. There's even reverse-cycle air conditioning. Anyone who has sailed a Corbin 39 knows that these boats are nothing if not overbuilt. Builder Marius Corbin took a time-tested, canoe-stern, flush-deck Dufour Yacht design, used Airex coring in the hull to achieve high impact strength, and then tripled and quadrupled the hull thickness through the center and keel portions of the hull. The sides of the keel and the turn of the bilge incorporate 21 layers of hand-laminated fiberglass, ten of which consists of 24 oz. woven roving. Eight layers of alternating 1.5 oz. mat and 24 oz. roving seal the inside of the boat from the lead installed in the keel. Instead of a liner, Corbin used six structural bulkheads laminated on both sides to the hull and deck. Solid mahogany, mahogany plywood and Burma teak are used in the factory-finished interior, the chain plates are oversized 316 stainless steel, and all deck hatches are double-framed.
BRIGHT EYES' forward cabin serves as the owner's stateroom. Its pullman-style berth is to starboard, and provides secure sleeping arrangements even in a seaway. There's a dressing bench to port, and storage ventilation is achieved with natural colored rattan inserts in the cabinets. A door provides privacy, as well as access to a cedar-lined hanging locker opposite the head compartment. In the salon, there's a settee to port, and a settee to starboard (with outboard pilot berth), both of which convert into berths, as does a settee in the pilothouse and a double quarter-berth immediately behind the inside steering station. A substantial dropleaf table mounted at midline can handle up to six ddiners comfortably, and contains a China locker. Headroom is generous by any standard, and ranges from 6'3" to 6'6".
