BLUE STAR is one of two custom 87' Burgers built together for Fortune 500 CEO's. She is a rare JB Hargrave design based on an earlier 83' Burger. BLUE STAR was built to very high standards with excellent project management. She spent her first six years in Europe and her electrical and generators were converted back to US standards when she returned to the US.
She is a three aft stateroom Burger with more spacious crew quarters than most so that a high level of crew service could be provided. She is a well maintained yacht, available for purchase for about 25% of the build price.
NOTE: Some photos are not current and are shown to provide past configurations. For example, originally BLUE STAR had a cranberry sheer stripe and boot stripe, then no sheer stripe with a white boot stripe, and currently an off-white sheer stripe to match boot stripe color.
Finished as only Burger can do, BLUE STAR's salon is African Anigre, a light toned hardwood with teak solid wood accents that combine for a beautiful classic look that is highlighted by fresh neutral carpeting and furnishings. The salon has a marble top bar/serving center on the starboard side opposite the sofa. A four place table and chairs are forward with the complete TV and electronics entertainment center on the forward bulkhead. There is a semi-circular staircase to the staterooms forward of the marble bar counter.
The Salon is accessed from the aft deck by a double sliding door aft, two side boarding doors on each side of the vessel, and another starboard side forward entrance to the galley and crew quarters.
The raised pilothouse is forward of the salon, accessed by both port or starboard sliding doors. The bridge stairs are on the port side of the pilothouse, with a navigation equipment room on the Portside and a day head on the starboard side.
Forward of the pilothouse in a private dining room with glass top table and chairs for six. Storage for formal dish and glassware is against the aft bulkhead of the dining room. There is an antique buffet between the two dish storage cupboards. A passthrough from the galley could be added.
The galley is forward of the dining room and there is a watertight crew door on the starboard side to the side deck.
Crew quarters and engine room access are down a starboard side stairwell forward of the galley.
The staterooms are accessed from the spiral stairs in the salon. There are three private staterooms each with its own marble head and stall shower. The stateroom level is done in mostly Butternut custom woodwork that is a beautifully light colored wood. The master stateroom is aft with two guest staterooms forward one to port and one to starboard.
2018 Upgrades & Improvements
After a donation to a maritime charity in 2018, BLUE STAR underwent 8 weeks of improvements:
1. Replaced cracked teak deck planks & reseamed & replugged the entire teak main deck where needed.
2. Buffed the blue hull and grinded out blisters and repainted the oyster white superstructure and weather boards.
3. Recoated all exterior varnish.
4. Touched up interior woodwork where needed.
Salon is entered through twin sliding doors aft or port and starboard mid-ships doors. The finish is African Anigre wood, light and airy. Trim solids are teak and offer beautiful accents to the to the Anigre.
The port side of the salon has a large chair and comfortable couch. Starboard side has a marble topped hide away glass storage rack and bar.
Forward in the salon is a round four place table with TV and entertainment center located in the forward bulk head. Fabric colors are neutral as is the carpet. Spiral stairwell to staterooms is on the starboard side, forward of the marble topped bar.
Some fabrics, carpet, drapes are original or replaced with similar but all are in good condition.
BLUE STAR has three generous staterooms each complete with its own head. They are accessed by a spiral stairwell off the salon area.
The master stateroom is aft. It is magnificently paneled in Butternut wood and features curved bulkheads that have no hardware showing. It's a phenomenal look and work of the highest caliber. There is a King sized berth, centerline, with ample storage in walk in closet, drawers and cupboards. The master head is forward in the stateroom on the port side and has a jacuzzi tub. It is marble & tile with complete privacy.
Forward of the Master stateroom through a companionway are the guest staterooms and laundry center.
On the port side the guest stateroom is done in cloudy grey mica finish with an offset queen size berth, large hanging locker and plenty of drawers and cupboards. There are TV, AC controls, and ventilation through screened opening ports. The guest head is private, located aft of the stateroom. It has a stall shower, is marble & tile and accessed from the stateroom. The second guest stateroom on the starboard side. It features butternut wood finish, generous twin berths, drawers and a hanging locker. TV, AC controls and port light ventilation. The head is aft entered from the stateroom with separate shower stall. All staterooms are well insulated and offer ultimate privacy for owners and guests.
Accessed from the starboard side forward of the galley, there is a private, water tight side door for crew privacy from the deck to the stairwell down to the crew's quarters. Two cabins, shared toilet and shower plus a forward relaxation area offer plenty of room for three with room for additional crew when needed forward. Complete renovation in 2006; flatscreen TV, DVD/Sat TV & AC controls, table and benches.
BLUE STAR's galley is on the main level forward of the private dining area. It is a U-shape with generous counter & storage space. New in 2008 are the appliances, the counters, the sink and faucets.
The galley has large windows port and starboard and a full complement of proper equipment plus a door to the deck on the starboard side for crew access.
Pilothouse is accessed from port or starboard companionways and is raised 3 steps with 270 degree visibility. The double wide helm seat is raised and offers excellent sight lines forward. Sole is teak & holly and gorgeous. The stairs to the flybridge are on the port side of the pilot house. All electronics are integral to the helm station and professionally installed.
Teak decks have plenty of thickness left and are the best natural non-skid available and still look good! Full walk- arounds make moving fore and aft very easy even with lines, fenders and other docking aids. The decks are presently as of 06/2018 being re-seamed and re-plugged to insure many more years of use. Unlike older Burgers, the solid teak planks are screwed to aluminum with nothing in between.
Wing doors at the the port and starboard stern make the aft deck a private sanctuary when wanted. The starboard side stern gate opens to a semi-circular staircase to the elongated swim platform w/removable SS rails. An excellent area for handling lines, fenders and the tender. When in the Mediterranean a fixed passarelle was mounted on center.
The fore deck on BLUE STAR has two large deck boxes build by Burger plus a foredeck seat that offers an excellent viewing area forward and affords great visibility of the passing scenery. This is a real special area when compared to the higher freeboards of other yachts where the views are blocked or there is a bosun's locker with no seat at all. The trunk cabin has side rails and there is plenty of room for sun pads.
Varnished teak caprail plus handrails run the full length port and starboard sides, absolutely gorgeous!
Shore power connections are aft as well as amidship on both port and starboard sides. All outside power comes in the main electrical system through an isolation transformer to insure that the shore power ground remains separate from the yachts system. The aft shore cord is on a retractable reel.
Engine & Mechanical Equipment
The engine room is aft of the crew quarters with full standing headroom. the MTU diesel engines are surrounded by all the desirable equipment. The condition of this area reflects the deep commitment to reliability and safety to the owner, crew and builder.

BLUE STAR was built as Housam and believed to be the most expensive Burger of the 1980's (approximately $3,500,000). Jack Bursak was the interior designer (many Architectural Digest articles about his work) and provided Burger Boat Company with some new innovative design ideas such as the forward crew lounge, the queen bed guest stateroom with the bed on a 45 degree angle, and the selection of high quality interior hardware most of which is still original as installed and well maintained by six subsequent owners. BLUE STAR is maintained in excellent condition and two past surveys and engine repair invoices are available for review by interested buyers.
BLUE STAR has successfully cruised the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Bahamas, New England, and the Great Lakes with every Captain loving the boat and the crew quarters. She was offered for sale only because the principal owner passed away. His estate has paid to store the vessel undercover and has continued to employ crew to maintain the vessel in excellent condition. A knowledgable captain who has cruised several thousand miles on BLUE STAR has just left the vessel but is available to indoctrinate new crew. The captain would like to ensure there is a good transition to a new buyer, as the deceased would want.
