The USCG Utility Boat, or UTB, was a standard utility boat used by the United States Coast Guard for a variety of inshore missions. The 41 ft (12 m) UTB was designed to operate under moderate weather and sea conditions where its speed and maneuverability made it an ideal platform.
The boats were welded 5086 aluminum, most of them had a molded fiberglass superstructure. But 41109 has a aluminum superstructure. Also, the twin Cummins diesel engines with conventional shafts and propellers were replaced by Volvo-Penta Model D9A-425 HP engines. This UTB can be used for commercial and private uses. DC Electrical System:
12 and 24 volt systems installed.
Battery Banks: There are two x 8D batteries (1400 CCA), located in the engine space forward.
Batteries are wired in series to produce 24 Volts serving engine start and house.
Batteries are well secured in boxes with straps or hold down brackets. Cables are
properly color coded.
Two rotary Battery switches .
Battery monitor: Switched digital gauge to test battery condition.
Charging system: Both engine mounted alternators plus the battery charger is a Xantrek 15 Amp /24 V (SN XC1524), Charger powers up and was functional.
Distribution panel: All DC circuits controlled from the helm station area. 12 V panel on dash and 24 V. panel on starboard side.
Breaker(s)/fuse(s): All D.C. circuits are adequately protected by branch or switched breakers.
D.C. wiring: All wiring runs are properly secured every 18" per ABYC E-11 recommendations.
Ring spade or crimp on connectors sighted for wiring connections per ABYC
DC Electrical ground: DC electrical system is properly tied into vessels electrical ground system using the engines as a common ground.
A.C. ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS:
A.C. Voltage system: 50 Amp - 120 Volt system. One inlet.
Shore power breaker: Dual pole breaker for shore power at main power distribution panel per ABYC recommendations. Distribution panel(s): In the main helm rea mounted on starboard side of wheel house. Branch breakers: All A.C. circuits are adequately protected by branch breakers.Outlets: Two utility outlets located in engine room.
A.C. wiring: Stranded copper boat cable- size and rating, where sighted, appears correct and serviceable for intended use. All wiring runs are properly secured. A.C. wiring is properly terminated. No wire nuts or loose connections sighted. Ring spade or crimp on connectors sighted for wiring connections per ABYC recommendations.
A.C. Electrical ground: A.C. electrical system is properly tied into vessels electrical ground system using the engines as a common ground.
Isolation Transformer: Charles, 3.8 KVA. Isolation Transformer is installed in the engine space forward bulkhead: (SN: 2009457).
Converter: Vanner Volt Master Battery Equalizer model 66-60, is installed in engine space forward bulkhead. 24V-12V. The equalizer is designed to provide 12 V and 24 V service as needed.
The engine room is accessed by power lift hatch. 41109 has two Volvo Penta Inboard Diesel Engines. Model D9A-425 HP . Port SN 1009136573; Stb SN 1009136565. The engines were manufactured in 2006. There is Reverso Oil Change system
mounted on aft bulkhead.
